**PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT - SOCIAL MEDIA POST INVOLVING WHITE VAN AND THE STALKING OF CHILDREN

Last night, Sheriff Tanner and myself were notified of a social media post referencing a person in a white van stalking children inside of a local chain store. The NCSO and the CPD immediately looked into the situation.

One of the social media post actually included a photo of a white van driving through the parking lot of our local chain stores. Detectives immediately contacted the person who posted the photo. That subject advised that he had seen it somewhere else on the internet and he re-posted this on his timeline. Officers spoke with the owner of the van (The photo included his license plate) and there is no indication of any crime or intent to commit any crime.

The CPD Records Department performed a search of reported incidents at the listed store location and cannot locate any reported incidents involving a white van and this type of activity.

Further investigation revealed that this same post, (sometimes with slight variations) but always involving a white van and the same chain store has appeared on social media in cities throughout the country. At this time, this post appears to basically be an "Urban Legend"
