Illegal cockfighting operation

On Sunday, July 28, 2019 the NCSO responded to a possible cockfighting event taking place on NW 0150 Rice. As deputies and detectives arrived in the area and began approaching the rural location several hundred yards off the county road, they observed numerous persons fleeing on foot into the woods from the remote area.
Deputies located a fighting arena and evidence of a cockfighting operation in plain view. During the course of the investigation, our Detectives were able t...o obtain arrest warrants for two suspects believed to be responsible for the operation.
Today, August 5th, 2019 one suspect was arrested by the NCSO in reference to this cockfighting operation and the other fugitive is continuing to be sought after at this time.
I applaud the work of our detectives assigned to this case in identifying the suspects and obtaining warrants for their arrest. We will continue to be diligent in seeking out and stopping these illegal events that involve animal cruelty in our county.
