Dear Citizens,
I, my family and all of us here at the Navarro County Sheriff's Office, would like to extend our best wishes for a healthy, prosperous and Happy New Year. We look forward to helping make 2020 a safe year for all those in our community. Please be assured as Sheriff that my commitment to the citizens remains strong and I will continue to work with you to improve the quality of life for the current and future residents of Navarro County. It is my hope that 2020 will be a year when those in our community will continue to extend a helping hand to their neighbors, coworkers, family, friends and strangers in need.
It's a real pleasure to say and extend a heartfelt and sincere thank you to all those that have supported me and the men and women of the NCSO in the past and as we continue to strive in making our county a safer place to live and raise our families.
We appreciate you all and we wish you and yours an overabundance of blessings, health, happiness and success in the coming year. Please contact my office if I, or any of my staff, can ever be of any assistance.
Earlier in 2019, the NCSO submitted a letter of request to the North Central Texas 9-1-1 for consideration to receive the donation of a 2010 Ford F-150 crew cab pickup. We were recently advised that the NCSO was chosen to receive this vehicle free of charge. This month we took possession of the pickup and we will be assigning this vehicle to our telecommunications division. This vehicle will be used by our Telecommunicators when they travel to training and while they attend functions within the county. This vehicle will be a valuable asset to our fleet and was at zero cost to our taxpaying citizens. We are proud to have been selected for this donation and we look forward to our continued working relationship with NCT 9-1-1.
In December we held our Annual NCSO Departmental Christmas Luncheon for our employees and guests. We look so forward to this opportunity each year to not only have food and fellowship with those that work at the NCSO but to also share together this time and holiday meal with those that support us in what we do. A huge thank you to David A. Nyquist and David B. Nyquist not only for the generous donation of BBQ for our holiday meal but also for your continued and valued support of law enforcement. We thank Bob Austin with 5 Star Correctional Services Inc. for helping in providing food for the meal as well. As always, much appreciation and love to Darrin Richardson, Becky Hatchel, Krystal McCollum, Traci Cardwell, Teresa Burnett, Amy plant and Sarah Lane who did an awesome job in working so hard to coordinate and set up the meal for everyone to enjoy. We appreciate, value and are extremely grateful for all our employees, friends and guests and hope you all had a very Merry and Blessed Christmas.
We would also like to thank the numerous individuals throughout our community that stopped by and visited us at the NCSO during the holidays bringing in cards, food and deserts. Your thoughtfulness, kindness and support of our officers and staff are always welcomed and very much appreciated.
On Tuesday December 3, 2019 the NCSO Narcotics unit, assisted by members of the Criminal Investigation and Patrol Divisions, concluded an investigation into drug trafficking from a residence in the 200 block of Mamie Avenue, Corsicana. As a result of the investigation three suspects were ultimately arrested and numerous illegal narcotics were seized.
Our Deputies conducted a traffic stop of a suspect vehicle and almost simultaneously executed a narcotics search warrant linked to the investigation resulting in the seizure of approximately 88 grams of Methamphetamine, quantities of Cocaine, Black Tar Heroin, Ecstasy, Xanax and Marijuana. A Walther 9mm handgun reported stolen out of Ft Worth PD, counterfeit cash, drug paraphernalia and approximately $1,760 in US currency was also seized. These suspects were charged with multiple narcotics related offenses and were incarcerated at the Navarro County Justice Center. I am very proud of our officers, their continuing dedication and commitment to keeping these drugs off our streets and being committed to keeping our community safe.
On Wednesday December 4th, agents from the Texas Attorney General's Office, assisted by the NCSO Criminal Investigation and Patrol Division, executed a search warrant in the 7400 block of NW 0150 Rice. As a result of the investigation two suspects were arrested. One suspect was arrested and charged with five counts of possession of child pornography and four counts of possession with intent to promote child pornography. The other suspect was arrested for possession of marijuana. Both subjects were transported to the Navarro County Justice Center and incarcerated. Once again, another example of agencies working together to keep our community safe. Great job officers.
On Friday December 6th the NCSO Narcotics unit, assisted by members of the Criminal Investigation and Patrol Divisions, executed a narcotics search warrant in the 3400 block of FM 1126 Emhouse. As a result of this narcotics investigation four suspects were arrested and a quantity of methamphetamine and hydrocodone pills were seized. The suspects were all arrested and charged with possession of controlled substance PG1 under 1 gram and possession of controlled substance PG3 under 28g.
On Friday, December 6th, the NCSO was alerted to the reported theft of livestock from Kerens by an agent of the Texas Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. The suspect had allegedly stolen three head of cattle from two separate owners and taken them to a livestock auction out of the county. Our NCSO detectives immediately responded to the livestock auction and began the theft of livestock investigation and placed a hold on the stolen livestock. The owners then retrieved their animals from the location. On Tuesday, December 10th, NCSO Detective Sergeant Randy Clay served arrest warrants on the suspect charging him with two counts of felony theft of livestock.
On Wednesday, December 18th, approximately 6:30 am the NCSO responded to the 4500 block of W State Hwy 22 Corsicana in reference to theft. The caller stated a suspect was attempting to steal a camper trailer from the location and nobody should be on the property. The caller contacted the owner of the camper trailer who advised that nobody had permission to be at the location or tamper with his trailer. The NCSO arrived at the location and detained the suspect observing he had raised the tongue, leveling jacks and had entered the camper in preparation for transport before the Deputies arrived. The owner valued his camper at $23,000. The suspect was ultimately arrested by the NCSO and charged with Burglary of a Habitation. Great job by the concerned citizen who saw something and said something therefore thwarting this felony offense. Another great example of our citizens and law enforcement working together to keep our community safe.
On Wednesday December 18th, the NCSO responded to an animal welfare call in the 300 block of Oak Valley Lane Corsicana. The complaint was in reference to numerous calls of cattle and dogs at the location being neglected or abused. An NCSO animal warden, and CID detective responded to the area and obtained verbal consent to search the property by the owner. The Deputies observed the animals in question at the location and conducted an evaluation of their current body condition, food source, water and shelter. The Deputies reported that no animal abuse or neglect was occurring at the location as the animals had an adequate source of food, water and shelter at the location. The animals body condition was also deemed adequate. I myself also stopped at the location while deputies were on scene conducting the evaluation and I concur with the Deputies finding in this case. This case was unfounded at this time.
On Friday, December 20th, NCSO Corporal Shane Richards responded to suspicious activity near Richland. A caller had reported a "suspicious trailer and UTV" on SWCR 2350 @ SWCR 2340. Corporal Richards confirmed the dump trailer was stolen out of Navarro County and had been taken from Clayton Homes on I-45 Angus on December 19th. The John Deere Gator was reported stolen out of Hillsboro PD and was taken from United Ag and Turf John Deere in Hillsboro. Again, another example of our citizens partnering with law enforcement. If you see something, say something. As a result, both crime victims will have their stolen property returned.
Santa's helpers from the Navarro County Sheriff's Office delivered over 200 gift packages to the inmates at the Justice Center on Christmas day. The Christmas gifts were provided to the inmates by Texas Land and Cattle and delivered by the Salvation Army. With my approval, Detention Officers of the NCSO delivered the gift packages to every inmate within the facility, so that they could experience and know the true meaning of Christmas.
The Sheriff's Office had approximately 2,816 calls for service in December and our Dispatch received 1,753 calls for assistance to 9-1-1. There were approximately 223 persons arrested and booked into the Navarro County Justice Center and the average daily jail population was 213 inmates. The Narcotics Unit arrested thirteen suspects, filed thirty-three criminal cases and served five outstanding arrest warrants. Fourteen inmates were transferred to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and seven other inmates were transferred to State Jail and SAFP Units to serve their sentences. This month we estrayed one horse, and one goat and hauled it to our county farm at Petty's Chapel.
We are currently accepting applications for vacancies in communications and the detention division. As in the past, applications will continue to be taken for any vacancy until the position is filled.
"Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable. Even a superficial look at history reveals that no social advance rolls in on the wheels inevitability. Every step towards the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals.- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
As always, God bless and be safe
