Letter of Commendation

07/06/2015

It is always a pleasure to hear positive comments about our agency. I am proud to share an appreciation letter I just received today in reference to our Navarro County Deputies.

Sheriff Elmer Tanner,

My name is Michael R. Johnson; it is with great joy, thankfulness, and appreciation that I am writing you about today on the behalf of my wife Camerine Johnson. On 06/13/2015 at approximately 09:40 my wife Camerine was traveling on FM 85 headed towards Ennis having just turned onto FM 85 by the gravel pits, with my 3 year old son when she experienced a tire blowing out on her car. With me being stuck on shift in Athens I was unable to come to her aid. While I was able to make contact with a wrecker service to respond to her location in order to assist her, they had over an hour estimated response time. Around 10:00 am my wife advised me that the police were pulling up behind her.

Camerine told me over the phone that they were there simply to check and make sure that she was ok and to see if she needed any assistance.

Camerine told me that Deputies Keith Lewis #132, and Matt Swindall #137 had offered to change the tire for her. Camerine was so overly touched by their kindness, respect and the thoughtful act of these two deputies. While the deputies were in the process of changing the tire for her, she had to take my son out of the car in order to try and calm him down. In an effort to help calm my son, one of the deputies retrieved a small toy from their patrol vehicle and gave it to my son.

To this day 06/18/2015 my son has yet to put that little toy down and not play with. He tells me that the police gave it to him. I am so pleased to see that your department and its deputies still care for and are willing to go above and beyond their typical duties to serve the public. I only wished that more agencies shared this idea of community service.

Respectfully and Thankful

Michael R. Johnson
